COMET music pedagogy was developed because of the problems Dr. Karaikudi Subramanian found in the institutional educational system in India. The system is now well tested over nearly quarter of a century. Because of the nature of the individualistic ways of learning classical South Indian music, certain common scientific aspects of learning were not emphasised even in the institutional set up when Dr. Subramanian joined the University of Madras. He found many gaps in the process of learning. COMET was developed on account of his research in the traditional methods in a global context, himself as part of a long generation of musicians. He calls it objective because the learning methods do not contradict or interfere with the stylistic features of another musician. Many professional musicians as well as beginners got benefitted by this method.
