The Ford Foundation

The Ford Foundation is a resource for innovative people and institutions worldwide. Our goals are to:

1. Strengthen democratic values,
2. Reduce poverty and injustice,
3. Promote international cooperation and
4. Advance human achievement

This has been our purpose for more than half a century.

Created with gifts and bequests by Edsel and Henry Ford, the Foundation is an independent organization, with its own board, and is entirely separate from the Ford Motor Company.

A fundamental challenge facing every society is to create political, economic and social systems that promote peace, human welfare and the
sustainability of the environment on which life depends. We believe that the best way to meet this challenge is to encourage initiatives
by those living and working closest to where problems are located; to promote collaboration among the nonprofit, government and business
sectors; and to ensure participation by men and women from diverse communities and at all levels of society. In our experience, such
activities help build common understanding, enhance excellence, enable people to improve their lives and reinforce their commitment to
society.

The Ford Foundation is one source of support for these activities. We work mainly by making grants or loans that build knowledge and
strengthen organizations and networks. Since our financial resources are modest in comparison with societal needs, we focus on a limited number of problem areas and program strategies within our broad goals.

Since its inception it has been an independent, nonprofit, nongovernmental organization. The trustees of the foundation set policy and delegate authority to the president and senior staff for the foundation's grant making and operations. Program officers in the United States, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Russia explore opportunities to pursue the foundation's goals, formulate
strategies and recommend proposals for funding.

IMPACT

"We are in the business of creating social change"

A public service venture capital firm, Impact Partners offers professional services and funds to visionary individuals and organizations. We build portfolio organizations that are sector
leaders, incubate start-ups, and provide the infrastructure to implement innovative ideas that advocate positive and systemic social
change in India.

We believe we must earn the right to advise or invest in social entrepreneurs. Whether that means strengthening their strategic planning, accessing talented individuals, building sector networks, uniforming legal and accounting services, or assisting in fundraising beyond our own commitiment, we know it takes more than money to build successful, broudbreaking organizations.

What we do

While our vision and strategy are compelling and exciting, the real difference comes from the active, hands-on involvement of our investment committee, which combines significant venture capital and social entrepreneurial experience. Our investment committee uses a proactive "outbound" approach to identify capable and distinguished social entrepreneurs, which means we look for you. Daily interactions and regular fieldwork not only allow us to become a team member of the organization but also offer us invaluable learning opportunities.

We manage our investors in a "for profit " manner. Where appropriate, we involve them in specific investments and report to them regularly. And by building a visible brand around Impact as well as select proftoflio organizations, we mobilize crative and young people to consider social entrepreneurship as an exciting and serious career
option.

Who we help

We help capable individuals and start-up organizations realize their
visions. We provide organizations monies for growth, enhancing
current programs, and establishing joint ventures. We assist in
partnerships between for-profit venture capitalists and non-profit
organizations. And finally, we are committed to promoting social
responsibility in the corporate sector.

INDIA FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS

India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is an independent, professionally managed, national grant-making instituion. Given the richness and
diversity of the arts in India, IFA seeks to provide sustenance to creativity, collaborative work and critical reflection.

Twenty-four grants awarded earlier under the arts research and documenation programme supported the study of subjects like
compoisitions in Carnatic music, popular and commercial art, craft traditions and lifestyles, women photographers, architectural history,
mural and miniature painting, and the traditions of Indian sculpture. This list is only indicative of the diversity of interest generated by this programme and the range of the projects it attracts.
